Fashion/Portrait photography on location using natural light


To get the perfect fashion/ portrait photograph using natural light on location you have to take into account these factors:

  • Sharp images- Use a single point Auto Focus  and always make sure the eyes are sharp.
  • Skin tones- Use histograms to expose properly, use spot metering and changing the white balance.
  • Location- this plays a big part of the photograph because you have to think about where it is or what's in the background, If its a sunny day you want to think about the direction of the sun so that the model isn't squinting a lot also the image not being too dark, Depth of field is important because this helps separate the model from the background as well as using fill flash.
  • If there is any shadows then you can fill them with reflectors. We used a piece of white paper to bounce the light onto the models face.
  • If you want to create a shadow then you can use a Gobo again for this we used a piece of black paper.
